Coles Loves Sugar

It seems that the deli department at Coles, Noranda loves its sugar. The strips of bacon and the container of tabbouleh we bought were obviously products of a demented dessert maker on a particularly bad day. Now I have tasted sweet bacon before but I have never come across a recipe for tabbouleh that insisted on any sugar let alone a quantity that would have sent Droopy Dog into a frenzy. I didn’t want to throw it away, though; the Aussie dollar is, after all, currently taking residence in the international basement and every bag of groceries seems to cost at least $30 no matter how small the quantity of items. I sprinkled the tabbouleh with a liberal amount of chilli powder hoping that the sugar would succumb. It didn’t. The chilli powder didn’t stand a chance and all I got was forkfuls of sickly sweet tabbouleh tinged with fire. Thanks a lot Coles.
